Sackville Prepares To Celebrate Canada Day

Thursday, Jun 14 08:07 AM

There’s a very strong community that is united in the wonderful town of Lower Sackville.

As Canada Day approaches, the excitement grows for the upcoming events that are held for the birthday of our country. Every year, the Sackville Community Development Association is the lead organizer of the Sackville Patriot Days events.

Some key events to check out during the week leading up to Canada Day include the Paws for Canada Dog Walk on June 24, the free concert at Kinsmen Park on June 30 and right after the concert, the fireworks display at First Lake.

The full schedule can be viewed on the patriotdays.ca website.

Events such as Patriot Days really help bring the people within a community together. Wade Dooley, Patriot Days chair, said that the best word to describe Patriot Days is “family,” which is the bedrock of a strong community.

He said that Patriot Days events are the most popular events held throughout the year in Sackville and that they help bring people together.

“You get to see all the faces from around the community. You never see as many people in Sackville as you do at this event.”

The parade attracted 20,000 people to Sackville last year, so there will certainly be lots of faces to be seen.

The pride for our country is certainly shown with the Celebrate Canada Parade held on Sackville Drive on July 1. This year, because July 1 falls on a Sunday, the parade will begin at 1 p.m. The Sackville Business Association is a sponsor of the parade and they ask businesses every year to participate in the Fly a Flag for Canada Day campaign and hang a flag on the storefront of their business from June 20 to July 2. As the parade floats go down this main street, many local businesses will have their Canadian flags flying high.
