Toronto Caribbean Carnival Grand Parade Returns In Full Colour

Wednesday, Aug 02 06:15 AM

The Toronto Caribbean Carnival (formerly Caribana) is wrapping up a month of celebrations with its biggest event of the year, the Grand Parade.

The parade happens Saturday, Aug. 5 at Exhibition Place, 100 Princes’ Blvd., where general admission costs $10 to $20 ($50 to $100 for VIP tickets), and along Lake Shore Boulevard, where spectators can watch for free.

Organizers say by paying for admission to Exhibition Place, spectators will have access to bleacher sitting for a great view of the parade. You can also bring your own lawn chairs.

Masqueraders in colourful and striking costumes and steel pan bands will wind their way from Exhibition Place and move east along Lake Shore and then return to Exhibition Place during the parade.

The parade happens from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, visit www.carnival.to

Saturday's Grand Parade is not the Carnival's only attraction this weekend. On Friday, Aug. 4, the Carnival hosts its Pan Alive Competition at Allan Lamport Stadium, 1155 King St. W., from 7 to 11:30 p.m. General admission costs $25.

On Sunday, Aug. 6, the Carnival hosts We Jammin' Still at Lamport Stadium from 2 p.m. to midnight. General admission costs $35.
