In the middle of the Indian Ocean, off the coast of east-central Africa, lies a hidden paradise called Unguja. This beautiful archipelago colloquially known as Zanzibar comprises 4 islands. There are flat areas of coral limestone to the east, south, and north of Zanzibar and on the western islands. The island group is also known as the Spice Islands due to the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper that are grown there. The Zanzibar Archipelago is a major tourist destination in the Indian Ocean. Many languages are widely spoken, but the majority of the population is Muslim.
The colours that you will see presented in our presentation today represent our interpretation of the main themes of Zanzibar and all its natural beauty: deep blues and turquoise to reflect the effervescence of the Indian Ocean and the skies surrounding the islands; yellow and gold to represent the sun, sand, and foods that are grown and harvested; and coral to reflect the various treasures of coral under the sea.
We hope you enjoy our 2022 presentation for the Toronto Reveller's Junior Band, Zanzibar…Hidden Paradise, the jewel of the Indian Ocean.
